Truth
Bapu said truth is God. Always speak the truth, even when it is hard.
Bapu, Father of the Nation
महात्मा गांधी
↓My life is my message.
Words Bapu wrote in 1947
Bapu fought for India's freedom without any weapon. His weapons were truth and ahimsa, which means non-violence. Millions of Indians walked with him. He showed the world that a peaceful fight can win.
On 15 August 1947, Bapu did not celebrate. He was in Kolkata, fasting and praying to stop the riots. For him, freedom meant nothing without peace.
Think about itBorn on 2 October in Porbandar, Gujarat. His name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
Went to South Africa as a lawyer. He was thrown off a train for being Indian. He decided to fight unfair laws.
Came back home to India and travelled across the country to understand its people.
Helped indigo farmers in Champaran, Bihar, who were forced to grow indigo.
Walked about 385 km to Dandi with his followers and made salt from sea water. The British salt law was broken.
Started the Quit India movement with the call "Do or Die".
Was killed in Delhi on 30 January. India calls this day Shaheed Diwas.
One day, a young lawyer sat in a first-class train seat in South Africa. He had a proper ticket. But an officer told him to leave, only because he was Indian.
He said no. So they pushed him off the train at a cold station. He sat there all night and thought.
He could go home quietly. Or he could stand up against the unfair rule. He chose to stand up, but without hitting anyone.
That young man was Mohandas Gandhi. That cold night made him Bapu.
Bapu said truth is God. Always speak the truth, even when it is hard.
Do not hurt anyone with your hands, words or thoughts.
He spun his own thread. Learn to do your own work.
