Ananda Parenting ("we", "our", or "the app") is built for parents who want to raise children rooted in Indian values and culture. This policy explains exactly what information the app uses, how it is stored, and what is never collected.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only what is necessary for the app to function. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers.
Account information
To sync your family's data across devices and co-parents, the app requires a free account, created with your email and password or via Sign in with Apple, Google, or Facebook. We store your display name, email address (via your sign-in provider), and a household identifier linking you to your co-parent, if any.
Child profile information
To personalise stories, mantras, and festival content, the app stores your child's name, date of birth, gender, and (optionally) a photo, family surname, and gotra. This is entered by you, the parent, never collected directly from your child. It is encrypted on your device and, if you've set up a household, synced to your private family cloud so a co-parent can see the same profile.
Photos you capture
When you use the Smriti memory feature, the app accesses your camera to capture moments from your child's spiritual journey (festivals, samskaras, daily practices). Photos are stored on your device and, to enable co-parent sync and the cloud backup that account-based storage provides, are uploaded to secure cloud storage (Supabase).
Voice reflections
The app can optionally transcribe spoken reflections into text for hands-free journaling. Speech recognition runs entirely on your device using Apple's on-device framework. Your voice and transcriptions are never transmitted to our servers or any third party.
Notification preferences
If you grant notification permission, the app schedules local reminders (practice streaks, festival reminders, monthly memory dispatches). These notifications are generated entirely on your device — no notification server or push backend is involved.
Subscription and purchase data
In-app subscriptions are processed by Apple or Google through their standard payment systems. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status. RevenueCat receives your anonymised purchase receipt; we never see your payment card details. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy for details.
Product analytics and crash reporting
We use PostHog to understand how the app is used (e.g. which screens and features are opened) and Sentry to capture crash reports, so we can fix bugs. Both are tied to an anonymous device/user identifier, not your name or email, and neither is used for advertising or cross-app tracking. PostHog also receives a broad age range for your child (e.g. "3-6 years"), never their exact birthdate or name, used only to understand which age groups use which features.
App preferences and progress
Your streak data, mantra progress, samskara milestones, and app settings are stored locally on your device using your phone's secure storage, and synced to your account so they carry over if you reinstall the app or sign in on a new device.
2. What We Do Not Collect
✓ We do not use advertising SDKs or tracking pixels.
✓ We do not share data with third-party advertisers.
✓ Voice recordings never leave your device.
✓ Notifications are local — no push notification server is used.
✓ Analytics and crash reports are never linked to your name or email.
3. Cloud Storage
Smriti photos are stored in a private cloud storage bucket on Supabase (supabase.com), a GDPR-compliant infrastructure provider, scoped to your account so only you and any co-parent you've invited can access them. You can delete individual synced photos at any time from within the app, or delete everything at once by deleting your account (see Section 6).
4. Children's Privacy
Ananda Parenting is designed for use by parents. The app does not directly collect any information from children. Content related to your child (profile details, photos, milestone notes) is entered solely by you, the parent, and is stored on your device, encrypted, and synced to your private family cloud only if you set up a household with a co-parent (see Section 1).
We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
5. Third-Party Services
The app integrates with the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Supabase — account authentication and cloud storage for your household's data and photos. Privacy Policy
- RevenueCat — subscription management. Privacy Policy
- PostHog — anonymised product analytics. Privacy Policy
- Sentry — crash and error reporting. Privacy Policy
- Apple App Store / Google Play — payment processing for subscriptions, and Sign in with Apple / Google.
We do not integrate advertising networks, and none of the above are used to track you across other apps or websites.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
All local data (streaks, preferences, photos) is deleted when you uninstall the app.
Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account, with no need to contact us. If you are the only parent on your household, this immediately and permanently deletes your account along with your household's child profiles, memory records, Smriti photos, and all other content. If you share a household with a co-parent, only your own account is removed — your household's shared content remains for the co-parent.
If you unsubscribe without deleting your account, your household's content is kept for 90 days in case you resubscribe, after which it is automatically and permanently deleted.
You can also reach us at the address below for any data deletion or access request we haven't covered above.
7. Security
Sensitive preferences are stored using your device's secure encrypted storage. Cloud-stored photos use access controls that restrict them to your household's devices only. We do not store passwords or financial information.
8. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above and notify you within the app. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
9. Contact Us
